Hello! I am a bit late to the party as I was traveling. Will be soon along to read your entries to this week’s Friday Fictioneers 100 word story challenge hosted by Rochelle based on the photo kindly provided by Ken Arnopole (friend of Ted Strutz). Thanks!

Words 100
βGood food.β The eldest of their guests conceded. βAlthough being a diabetic, I donβt usually take potatoes. The fish was tasty but,β he gave a laugh, βour son prefers mutton.β
βRajma, though needing some salt, is his favorite,β his wife rushed in, βI rarely make it as it doesnβt suit us.β
If only you had informed us of your arrival.
If only you had informed your meal preferences.
If only you hadnβt come and robbed me of my Sunday.
Reena bit her tongue and smiled. βThanks. Being hypertensives, I thought you might be on a salt and meat restricted diet.β

Thanks for visiting and look forward to reading your share of guest woes.
For anyone interested, Chapter 6 of Some Sugar & Spice is up.
It will be so lovely when they go away again, though. Nicely rendered, Dahlia

Atithi devo bhav.Hmmm.Depends on the guests. While growing up in East Africa I used to go to my friend’s or neighbour’s houses unannounced and was always welcomed. But when we moved to UK we had to ask if we could visit and that we will be having a meal.
I am more like Reena .I like my Sunday, a day of rest.
It is a lovely sunny day today. The bluebells are fading and all the fruit blossoms are gone too. Waiting for the roses to bloom.

A clever write. Sometimes people don’t state their food preferences as they want to be polite. But usually people are happy to accommodateβ¦ You know what, just as I was about to read your blog, I opened some chips to eat ππ

I hope you left a few chips for me, so long since i had some….especially with you π People dont want to be a bother but somehow cannot keep their mouths shut either – they will be sure to let you know of the sacrifices they have made π thanks for reading.

I so agree with you there, that people sometimes cannot keep their mouths shut. Sort of keen to tell you what they think or what to do. I think it’s a balance of stating one’s opinion and being respectful.
I think I’ll go out and buy a big meal of burgers and fries and we can share ππ π

Dahlia, your story has a universal appeal because everyone knows someone like them — or *is* someone like them. Very well done.

All guests are very welcome in my house except the unexpected; relative or not. But, I still have to grin and bear them in order not to cause offence.

Once we had a discussion about how much life would be easier if meals could be made into pills. But then would life be worth living?

Oh, uninvited guests (unless they are my direct family) are a rarity and let’s face it, when they are difficult to boot? No thanks!!
I like to be prepared π And I would hate for my Sunday to be so disrupted as she!

Reena gives the perfect answer. I doubt her guests can read between the lines though. Unannounced guests who passive-aggressively criticize the meal you offer–ugh. Maybe they won’t come back…

I also doubt if they got the message. But one can hope they wont be back. Fingers crossed! Thank you for reading and commenting π

Dear Dahlia,
Talk about your self-entitled uninvited guests. Sheesh. Send them packing to McDonalds π Good story though.

Nothing like some uninvited passive aggressive dinner guests to test your generosity. She seems to have pulled it off with aplomb.
