Monstrous Tales
Words 201
“Ma, I never want to go to school!”
“I thought you were desperate to start school?”
“There’s a Monster in school.”
“Monster?”
“Yes. He has big fangs that jut out from pink gums. His eyes have streaks of yellow and red. And…” Molly shuddered.
“What?”
“He’s got a long flaming tail tucked in his pants.”
“Who told you?”
“Dada told me.”
“He’s teasing you.”
“He isn’t. I saw Dada’s hand – it was all red with big welts.” Molly clapped a hand to her mouth.
“What?”
“I promised not to tell anyone.”
“I am not anyone. I am your mother. What else did he tell you?”
“You know why Dada has his lunch standing up?”
“Why?”
“Because he can’t sit. The Monster whipped him with his tail.”
“What else does the Monster do?”
“He pinches their ears. Sometimes he puts a pencil between their fingers and squeezes until they scream. Ma, please don’t send me to school.”
“We’ll see.”
“Ouch!” Molly rubbed her arm.
Grinning Dada held up his weapon, a huge toenail.
“Is it the Monster’s?”
“Don’t you know? We chased away the Monster.”
“How?”
“With this nail.”
“Where can I get one?”
“There’s a cupboard full of nails in school.”

Were you this scary during your childhood days too…scaring kids around you with your fabulous imaginations?😃

Ahh no – I let my schooling interfere with my imagination 😉 And probably would have let it last forever but then I met some very WW people on the way and things were never the same again 😀

Hahaaa, very imaginative!! Molly is so impressionable and so awestruck with her Dada 🙂
I think, one of the few instances where your imagination has run exactly as per the pic…. right on the dotted lines. This monster’s face looks like the opened shell of a walnut with its insides peeping out 🙂 🙂 🙂

Yes! It does look like a half-opened walnut 😀

I think both the dad and his child have huge imaginations. The mom seems more into realism. Good writing, Dahlia. 🙂 — Suzanne

i love how impressionable kids are. They will believe almost anything you tell them (If they have Asperger’s Syndrome, then they will believe what you tell them well into adulthood) Chasing away the monsters with the nails is an imaginative way of making Molly feel safe and secure.

I am or was pretty impressionable myself 😀 Thanks Alistair 🙂

First of all I would like to say awesome blog! I had a quick question in which I’d like to ask if you do not mind. I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your mind prior to writing. I have had difficulty clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas out. I truly do enjoy writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are wasted simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or hints? Thanks!|

Thank you for your kind comment. 10 -15 min to orient oneself sounds very reasonable, sometimes I waste the whole day trying to figure out how to begin. 😀

It was all a joke. I seriously thought Dada(Brother?) was being bullied in the school. At least he told Molly there was a solution to beat the monster.

Ah actually it wasnt a joke. There was a teacher who was in the habit of thrashing his students including Molly’s Dada (brother). But he made it into an adventure which Molly let slip to her Mum who decoded it and ensured that the teacher or the monster was kicked out. And Dada again spun a yarn😁

I am so glad that mum understood what the problem was.
