An Inconvenient Death
Words 100
“Where’s my breakfast?”
“Coming!”
A crash.
A wail.
“Forget it.” Bhushan grabbed an apple.
Dangling a toddler, she thrust his lunch box. “Best of luck!”
Dashing out, Bhushan hailed an auto. He wanted to catch the earlier train.
He couldn’t afford to be late, not today.
Pushing and shoving through the broiling jostling crowd, Bhushan boarded the Mumbai local.
He wiped the sweat off his brow and loosened the tie.
Did everyone have appraisal today?
The train lurched to a halt.
Babel broke out.
“What the hell?”
“Guy jumped in front of train.”
“Is this any time to commit suicide?”

My headache is more important than your broken leg, is more important than the conflagration in the next town. Well captured!

May the title should be An Inconsiderate Death? The story also speaks volumes about our self-absorbed attitudes and fixation on what our small minds think is important. Well done.

Yes perhaps that would have been more appropriate. Thank you for the visit and suggestion 🙂

Sadly these thoughts go through our minds when something like this happens, we should be feeling sorry for the suicide, not our own petty little problems

It can be so annoying when someone’s tragic demise makes you late for work…

Sounds like a comedy to me with that last line being the punchline. Great satire reflecting human nature of being self absorbed.

Sometimes the only way some people can make a mark on this world is by the way they leave it. So sad.

Inconvenient vs. insensitive…the last line did make me laugh but then, brought a guilt baggage behind it

Yeah but that’s what a tragi-comedy is supposed to do right?

The last line. Many a time when commuting to work the underground (tube trains) would stop with the announcement ‘This train is delayed because of a person under the train’ And lot of us thought ‘did it have to be this train?’ Terrible isn’t it. All we thought was to get to work on time,

It is terrible and frightening how very self absorbed we have become. Very likely that if people around him had shown some empathy he probably wouldn’t have jumped on to the tracks
