The World Cruise
Words 196
“Enough is enough! Leave him.” Suresh exhorted.
“I wish I could.” Naina choked on a sob.
“Why can’t you?”
“He is my responsibility.”
“You are too soft-hearted Naina.”
Naina shook her head. “Just human. He doesn’t keep good health these days. What if he falls ill? I would have to come back.”
“Even though he is an obnoxious ungrateful wretch who deserves to rot in hell?”
“What choice do I have? He cut off ties with his family. Yesterday he dismissed the servants.”
“He is taking advantage of your kind, considerate and giving nature.”
“I don’t know any other way to be.”
“What about me? Don’t I deserve any consideration?”
“Don’t make things more difficult for me.”
“I love you. Divorce him and marry me.”
A tear rolled down her cheek. “It is time for his medicine.”
“We’ll travel the world, like you dreamed.”
Naina heaved a sigh and shut the door.
Patience was crucial.
As was meticulous planning.
Today, she would double the dose.
In three months, she would be a bereaved widow.
In six months, she would accept Suresh’s proposal.
In a year, she would allow him to take her on the world cruise.

I like how the story starts from scared to the turning into evil vibes. I suppose the protagonist felt trapped for a long, long time and sometimes the only way we can get out is to turn on the ones who are making us unhappy. Funny how sometimes those who make us truly happy are those that are not by our side… Deep down we only know our own happiness, and when push comes to shove, sometimes we have to take our chances.
Because when it is when we take our chances, it is then that we will feel free 🙂
So in a way, though this story is downright evil, it has a happy ending 🙂 Well-written again, Dahlia.

That is a very insightful and deep comment Mabel – kudos. I appreciate your take away from the story – interesting and I agree, at least somebody will be happy. And that is a bit of a relief for I do love a happy ending and didnt until now quite see it that way. In fact I have been rather taken aback by my bloodthirstiness this week 😀 Thanks Mabel 🙂

You do weave goodness and bloodthirstiness together very well. Very seamless, all flowing in to each other 😀 From the piece, it sounds like the victim is also the bad guy and vice-versa. Which all sounds very reasonable because we all have different roles and faces at different points in our lives…and people change. Your writing is certainly deep. Very nice 🙂

Great story. From a timid kind hearted woman to a desperate harsh woman.

Happy endings are relative… Very nice story. Though, what makes her belive she will be happy with the other guy? She should take the trip by herself first and see if she really loves that man or he is just an escape from her seemingly miserable life.

Oh she needs a companion to attend to her baggage and other irrelevant stuff like expenses 😉 After all there’s no such thing as a free lunch, right 😀 Thanks for reading Joy 🙂 Pssst who knows if her hubby is really as bad as she is making him out to be?
